Kookaburra - Parental Duties 2 – My little family of Kookaburras who have a nesting site in my old gum tree and return each year to raise their family.
Captured in a suburban backyard, this photograph records an intimate struggle atop a Hills Hoist clothesline. A patient mother kookaburra attempts to feed an oversized insect to one of her three chicks. The fledgling repeatedly drops the massive morsel, forcing the mother to fly down, retrieve it from the lawn, and try again until the chick finally swallows the meal.
Nesting nearby in a tree termite mound, this family highlights how native wildlife adapts to domestic settings. The image beautifully bridges the gap between human suburban life and the relentless duties of wild life families thriving outside native bushland.
