Giraffes are unique for the brown and white pattern of their coat and are the tallest of all land animals having a distinctive gait where both legs on one side move together. In their natural range giraffes have experienced severe habitat loss as a result of human activity and degradation of their land and have undergone 36 to 40 percent population decline (2016) and are classified as vulnerable of extinction, some subspecies have declined by 80%.
